Commission on the Status of Women

In March 2010, the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) undertook a fifteen-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly. Emphasis will be placed on the sharing of experiences and good practices, with a view to overcoming remaining obstacles and new challenges, including those related to the Millennium Development Goals. Member States, representatives of non-governmental organizations and of UN entities will participate in the session. A series of parallel events will provide additional opportunities for information exchange and networking.

The Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund responds to specific issues of concern for women and girls in developing countries based on local needs, by providing support to small grassroots projects not often considered by larger funding organizations.
We celebrate the 35th anniversary of the UN World Conferences on Women and applaud the progress made since the 4th World Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995.
Our event this year brings together grantmakers and funding advocates to share their expertise and experience with women’s organizations seeking support in their efforts to make women’s empowerment a reality.
