From time to time, the Virginia Gildersleeve International
Fund members have special activities related to the operation of the organization.
These activities usually coincide with the fall Board/Committee meetings
and the spring Annual Meeting. Occasionally, a VGIF member or group of
members will support the aims of the organization in her own country or
region at a special event. Some of these 'happenings' will be displayed
in this section for all members to view and enjoy.

VGIF in the World: Getting US Involved
AAUW Convention, Phoenix, AZ, June 2007
At the AAUW national convention held in Phoenix, AZ the end of June 2007, VGIF had a presence on several fronts. Saturday, June 30, 2007 an hour breakfast session was held where Board members were introduce and a very brief history and explanation of VGIF’s mission was explained. Our President, Barbara Carey, gave a brief presentation about VGIF at the International Forum breakfast on Sunday morning. On Monday, July 2, 2007six of our members presented a 90 minute workshop entitled “VGIF in the World: Getting US Involved”. The workshop panel included a power point presentation using five diverse VGIF projects from around the world; the need and process for the On-Site program using volunteers to visit projects overseas; our United Nations connection; and demonstration of the Internet and other electronic resources to further the mission and purposes of VGIF. The workshop was intended for attendees who were interested in active involvement in improving the status of women and girls worldwide. From Friday June 29 through Monday July 2 the Membership Committee, the Executive Secretary and other active VGIF members attending the Convention manned a VGIF booth in the exhibit hall from 8:00 am until 3:30 pm where our brochures, Updates, posters, and other materials were available for Convention attendees. There was a constant laptop presentation that was on display also. Ten new contributing members joined the ranks of VGIF and 15 “old” members renewed. Between these contributions, pin sales and passing the hat at the VGIF breakfast, over $2400 was collected for our project grants.
IFUW Triennial Conference
Manchester, England, August 2007
August 2007 found VGIF on the road to Manchester, England to attend the International Federation of University Women Trienniel Conference. The Executive Secretary and Membership Convener manned a VGIF information table with the help of other VGIF members from all around the world who were attending the meeting. Two luncheons were held, one on Saturday, August 11 when 100 women attended, and Monday, August 13 when 200 were in attendance. At the luncheons there was an excellent power-point presentation; introductory remarks by the Membership Convener; brief history of VGIF presented by our President, Barbara Carey; a panel discussion moderated by Fay Weber, which included Board members Eileen Menton, Louise McLeod, Jackie Shahzadi, and Executive Secretary Fay Kittelson. Raffle tickets were sold all week and the drawing was held at the Monday luncheon. Joy Dunsheath, of New Zealand, was the lucky winner receiving a dinner for two at the Malmaison Manchester Restaurant. Seventeen new contributing members were obtained and the same number renewed. With memberships, pin sales, and “pass the hat” contributions over $3,300 was raised for project grants.
