Ways to Give Endowment Funds
|
Become a Contributing MemberWorld population is over 6 billion people, the majority of whom are women in developing countries who live in poverty. Gender disparities in economic power-sharing, in education, and access to adequate health care – all contribute to the oppression of these women. Combating poverty
and achieving gender equality - seemingly insurmountable problems –
were the challenges when the Virginia Gildersleeve International Fund
(VGIF) was founded in 1969. Little has changed in the nearly four decades
since. However, VGIF has contributed in excess of $1.2 million USD to
support VGIF was originally founded to assist women college graduates, – particularly those in low income per capita countries – to identify and implement solutions to problems confronting their nations. Today, most of the projects funded continue to be for women in developing countries, but the reach has extended far beyond college graduates to include the most needy people. In 2006, 22 awards were made in 19 countries, in 7 different regions of the world including Africa, the Pacific, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, South America, the Caribbean, and Southwest Asia. Priority is given to income generation and community development projects that enhance and use women's educational, vocational, and leadership skills. Support ranges from seminars and training programs to community-action projects. How
can you get involved? VGIF must
expand its donor base to continue its work around the globe and to meet
the increasing demands of the international communities it serves. As
world population grows, as gender disparities widen, as aggressor nations
challenge nearby neighbors to the detriment of all, the need for private
support from individuals becomes even more vital. Renew your Membership Contribution, Contribute to an Endowment Fund or Join Us for the first time >>
