Successful Support of Second Special Project
Because of the warm responses to our first special project solicitation, we are encouraged to believe that such specific requests are welcomed by the VGIF membership and have continued to offer you the opportunity to support such projects.

Thanks to your support of special projects, we raised nearly $2,000 in 2005 toward the Polly Badhue Kallayan Sangtha (PBKS)Program in Bangladesh.

What are the project goals?
The goal of this program is to improve the quality of lives of people with disabilities and to ensure their full participation as well as to establish social and economic equality for people with disabilities, especially women. According to the PBSK materials, the disabled in Bangladesh are neglected everywhere, women especially are more vulnerable and subjected to more social discrimination.

What are the long-term benefits of the project?
In the long term, the goal is to develop greater self-esteem and self-confidence among women in the program and to provide them with the means for economic self-sufficiency.

Publicizing VGIF in the USA Midwest
"It's so exciting to talk about the impact of VGIF!"

In my travels as the AAUW Upper Midwest Regional Director I have been able to share VGIF information with meeting attendees. I took brochures to the AAUW Nebraska Fall Workshop, the AAUW Calhoun County Iowa Branch and the International Study Group of the AAUW Cedar Falls Iowa Branch.

The AAUW Ottumwa Iowa Branch invited me to be their guest speaker in October, and on December 6 I spoke to AAUW Indianola Iowa Branch members. At that meeting of 16 women, four of them became VGIF donors and another had been a previous donor. Their gifts to VGIF plus a contribution from the branch totaled $185. This may seem like small steps. However, as our grant recipients report, every little bit helps!
